I had the task of calling home for a student who was absent and whose parents had not reported the absence on the absence line today.
I dialed the number and this is what I heard -
"You have reached and answering machine. Please call back."

Ha. About on a par with some of those customer service numbers where none of the menu options fits your need and you can't find a real person. Frustrating for school admin! I can remember my year teacher once driving me the 17 miles home because I was sick and there was no answer when the school nurse had tried ringing the house.
